Grandma Tiny's Tea Ring
This
has been in the family
for at least 40 years
I'm aware of. I got this from my mother, Adrienne Yetter, who gave it to me.
Ingredients:
- 2 cups warm water
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1 1/2 tsp salt
- 2 pkgs yeast
- 1/8 tsp grated lemon or orange rind
- 2 dashes mace
- 1 egg
- 1/4 cup soft shortening
- 6 1/2 - 7 cups sifted flour
- Butter
- Sugar
- Cinnamon
- Raisins
- Powder Sugar to make frosting
Directions:
- Mix water, sugar, salt.
- Stir in yeast until dissolved.
- Add eggs, shortening, mace, and rind.
- Add flour, stirring with a spoon, then by hand.
- Use Rolling pin to roll dough into desired shape, about 16
inches by 16 inches square
- Roll up, put in plastic bag, and place in refrigerator
overnight
- Take out, unroll
- Butter inside, sprinkle with sugar, cinnamon, &
raisins
- Roll up, and on one side, slice 3/4 of the way through,
every 3/4 inch
- Gently bring the two ends of the roll together, making a
ring, with the slices toward the outside
- Take the slices, and rotate them all the same way about 75
degrees. This will display the roll
- Bake in 400 degree F over, for 12-15 minutes
- Drizzle with powder-sugar frosting
- Slice the rest of the way through to serve
Makes one ring
Dough will keep in refrigerator about 5 days
